This was a whimsical story, full of secrets, hidden realms, prophecy, adventure, battles, fair folk and betrayal.

I think this book was rather boring. It just had too many unoriginal tropes and 'ideas', with the whole thing basically a girl getting kidnapped being told she is the long lost changeling (a fae hidden with humans) fae Queen, mashed together with the whold kidnapping trope, and the falling in love with captor trope. It was just too unoriginal without any real life in it. Unfortunately, I did not continue.

Beautifully written and engaging story! Fantasy books often take me a while to really get into, but this one grabbed me from the start. Many elements of this story will be familiar to other books of its genre, but it sneaks in unusual aspects (without giving anything away) especially nearer the end which I loved! So if you're a fan of fantasy and elemental magic, you won't want to miss this! I'm very much looking forward to reading the sequel, The Solitary King, next year.
