Flawed, but in the end, rather clever. It reads a bit like someone started writing a Ph.D. thesis and then decided to turn it into a novel. I found it a bit slow until about 60% of the way into the book. Then it really grabbed me.
A solid, genre-defying adventure with a heavy helping of philosophy. If I was a theory person I’d have given this an extra star, but I found myself more gripped to the action & relationships than the (for me, excessive) meta-conversations had by the characters. But the plot was really fast-paced and fun, keeping me on my toes until the very end. Bonus points for being a book written before the indoor smoking ban that has a protagonist who constantly smokes inside, making her seem extra chaotic. I loved the mice theme too - unexpected but worked perfectly.

Very existential! I felt myself feeling a bit mad when reading it, but the storyline was very imaginative (and often very random) and it was a nice change to what I'm used to reading. Perhaps I didn't understand the book or its message to its full extent, but from what I did gather, I enjoyed learning about.
Good read. Constantly surprising - which is something of a surprise itself.
Easily one of the craziest most brilliant books I've ever read.
This book drew me in from the beginning and provided a great combination of tension, detection and metaphysical musings. I had originally picked up the book so as to get away from reading books about Levinas, Derrida and Heidegger for my PhD... Which I thought was a safe bet as I had found it in a library where it said take me and read me for free and pass me on... Whilst surprisingly I didn't completely escape from what Id wished it did provide a great balance of escapism and flow.
WHAT DID I EVEN JUST READ? I think I feel smarter...I think I liked it....WHAT DID I JUST READ? I think I'm giving this a 3.5.
