Heat of the Everflame completely swept me away. It takes the foundation built in Spark and Glow and expands it into something even more intense. The realms feel vast and alive, the magic is clever and surprising, and the political threads kept me glued to the page. From the first chapter, the pace is unrelenting. Every time I thought I could catch my breath, another twist landed and pulled me right back under. The scale of the story feels so much bigger now, and by the time I hit that ending, I just sat there in shock.

Diem continues to be one of my favourite heroines. She is bold and determined, but what moves me most is her compassion and hope for others even when she has every reason to give up on them. In this book, she feels more grounded in herself, more sure of her choices, and ready to claim her place in this dangerous world. Watching her step into that power was such a highlight for me.

And Luther… where do I even start? He has that brooding intensity, but also a depth of loyalty that makes my heart ache. His quiet acts of protection and his willingness to let Diem take care of him in return made their bond feel even more real. There is a gentleness beneath his armour that we get to glimpse, and it only made me love him more.

Thank you to Penn Cole for creating such an unforgettable story. Waiting for Burn is going to be agony but I'm ready for it!!!

Oh boy do I have thoughts on this book! It started relatively strong, the storyline was exciting - Diem & her squad were venturing to new realms, which provided insight to different magic. Taran really carried these scenes though because Luther & Diem (& honestly Alixe) were all simply stupid. Taran was at least true to his silly goofy character, yet still made intelligent decisions, but I cannot say the same for the rest. Luther turned into a weak, lovesick man with no backbone for what is right & Diem just made horrible decision after horrible decision. All of this could have been avoided if they were HONEST which pissed me off. Don’t even get me started on the “spicy” scenes - I had to skim the single scene at the very end because it was so cringe. *spoiler* The scene with Ophiucae - where Aurelie, Diem, & Luther all confront him then run away… HUH?! You’re telling me this almighty powerful man would just let them go?! Then the fight in Sophos, Ophiucae literally could’ve ended things again & he didn’t… for what?! I guess his revenge is all talk. It didn’t make sense, I probably won’t finish because the characters are infuriating & this was way too long. The more I think about it, the more frustrated I get. 2.5 ⭐️ may be generous, but I’m doing it for Taran & Sorae.
