This book throws you straight into chaos from page one. It picks up exactly where the last one left off, and the pace doesn’t really let up. We get so many reveals—about characters, motives, and the bigger threats lurking in the background—and it kept me hooked the entire way.
The action scenes were great, but what really stood out for me was the balance between plot and romance. Diem and Luther clearly love each other, but they’re still keeping secrets that hold them back. The tension between them in the first half builds perfectly to a payoff in the second half, and I loved how it added to the story without taking it over.
Diem’s character growth here is huge. In the first two books, her role as queen felt forced on her. In this one, she’s stepping into who she’s meant to be, starting to let go of what no longer fits, and leaning into her own identity and power. Watching her navigate where her loyalties lie was one of my favorite parts.
The last stretch of this book had me losing my mind. I genuinely thought we were heading toward the end of the series, but at 95% the main conflict still hadn’t happened—and then everything blew up. The ending was wild, set the stage for even bigger stakes, and made me desperately neeeeedthe next book.
