This book is not what I expected. Although I took this in grade ten, I remembered absolutely nothing about it, except for the beasts of England song.
At the beginning I was like okay, good for them. They rebelled and kicked Mr. Jones out after getting sick and tired of the mistreatment and misery they were put through.
Three pigs then took charge after major died. Napoleon, snowball, and squeaky. They seemed brave at first, ready to take on all the responsibility , especially since pigs are the smartest creatures apparently.
As the story progresses lots of betrayal gets unveiled, from the three pigs themselves which was off putting.
Sheep were sheep, they just went with the flow, acted like parrots and uttered whatever they were told to utter. Dogs were loyal but for what? They blindly followed the pigs. Boxer is the only character I felt bad for, he was seriously blinded or just too stupid to realise the severity of the situation. They definitely slaughtered him, and I confirmed that when they didn’t get his remnants back to the Animal farm.
At first, the pigs sly behaviour was pronounced discretely. It was all going downhill.
They got greedy and arrogant. They basically brain washed the other animals and fed them lies. They even changed the seven commandments, narrowing them down to a horrifying commandment only. This little tiny book was so cruel and horrific.
They had gone against what major preached about. They were lost without him and each had gone about their own desires which ultimately led to the fallout of the animal farm.
The whiplashes, the same whiplashes that Mr. Jones had used on the animal were now used by the pigs. Again, going against one of the original commandments.
I did not expect to like this , maybe even love the blatantly obvious message behind this book. There were many tbf. It goes far beyond man’s capability of ruining everything he comes in touch with, it goes far beyond that. Greed and manipulation to achieve the darkest desires. It was just genuinely insightful and too relatable, such a shame Major died but that’s how life goes on, how creatures evolve. How someone can easily forget their morals and beliefs.
Such an indulging classic.
