Slower paced that I would have liked. The last 100 pages made up for the book as it is very densely written and initially was quite a slog.

Ugh, I'm kinda bummed I didn't like this as much as I thought I would.
The dialogue was super enjoyable, the concept was great... but there is so much detail. TOO much detail. In between the sections of dialogue are 5-10 pages of history (sometimes), which I feel could be summed up into 2-3 paragraphs at most. It made me feel like I was rushing through the history to get to the good parts. I think Ned feels like we need to know more than we ACTUALLY do to understand what he was getting at. Either way, it was okay... I just didn't love the way it was executed. 😟

Funny, scalpel-sharp satire about climate change and extinction. Wonderfully bitter and righteously angry. Surprisingly tender and emotional at times, even if sometimes it doesn't quite get out of the flippant, satirical tone before switching to a more serious section.

I felt it was realistic enough for me to enjoy but still fantastical enough for me to not feel stressed about irl issues. (I already know things are terrible. Go beyond that.) I think the dry humor in the story and characters really helped.

I loved the two leads! Halyard is sooo pathetic it's awesome. And Resaint is so weird I love her.

The world building is interesting but often times it is just dumped on you which made this book take a while for me to finish. It felt like an overload of info at times. This gets easier to manage like 40% in.

The epilogues are great and it sparked my interest in the story much like how Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep did. You really feel like you are being pulled in for the ride and made to think about what you are reading. I'm still kinda thinking about the endings.
