I spent most of my time reading this book reminding myself that this was written almost 100 years ago. Some of the themes of this book are very relatable to modern times. Scary!

the chapter between the controller and john is really one of the only things i like about this book. yes it is rather dry, especially the first half as it seems its all pure fact and barely any story

the only reason i read this in all honesty was because of my summer assignment for school for a class i'm taking this year. *mutters at myself for not getting the work done earlier*

but anyways, interesting altogether although rather dry and a bit slow in parts. orwell's 1984 was better, but why not read both

I'm just not that fussed with science fiction, I did this for a book club but I did enjoy the conversations we had about how it inspired other dystopias since it was written almost 100 years ago and I especially appreciate the world building. The writing style was hard for me to get into,i just read the summaries online.

Concept: 5/5
Execution: 2/5
Overall: 3/5

The above pretty much sums up how I felt about it. I feel all the effort went into the concept so that the actual act of storytelling took much of a back seat. It became a bit of a trial to read and actually put me into a bit of a reading slump as I had no desire to get back to it. Excellent to read alongside 1984 if you are looking for discussion as it gives plenty to think about but in a world opposite to that of 1984.
