I have some thoughts about this book. Except I'm not really sure where to begin. It was...good enough. Although completely unbelievable and unrealistic. I agree that teenagers lack certain life skills to help them discern how to act in particular situations, but, really?! Has anyone known teens that will ACTUALLY set their school on fire or do things that they know will intentionally hurt or even kill someone for something as little as concert tickets or a new phone? It gets to be a little ridiculous and eye roll worthy. I don't want to live in the town this book is set in if it's full of that many psychopathic teenagers.

i'll admit i remember very little about this book but it did instill me with a persevering fear of not reading terms of service conditions and getting pulled into something murdery.

This wasn't as bad as I was led to believe. I actually enjoyed the story and thought it was an interesting idea, it does remind me of something else though but I can't put my finger on what exactly that is.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Reading Joelle Charbonneau's Need is a bit like watching a high-speed wreck. You see it coming and there's nothing you can do about it. You know the result is going to be horrific, but you can't look away.

Students at Nottawa HS are being "invited to NEED - the newest, invitation-only social media site for [NHS] students. Join your friends in discovering how much better life can be when you are presented with an anonymous way to express your thoughts and are given the tools to get the things you need." Naturally, one student's definition of a "need" might differ from another's. An A on a final. A particular guy. An extra week of Christmas vacation. Concert tickets. Money. A kidney for a brother. So the story unfolds. At first, you only have to invite classmates to join NEED in order to have the request filled. But then the requirement changes, and students must complete a task. The tasks seem innocent enough - at first. Told from the perspectives of various NHS students, we learn just how far some teens are willing to go in order to get what they want.

Who is behind NEED? What do they want? Who will ultimately have their needs met, and who will pay the price for that? Need is fast-paced and suspenseful. And as we know from Charbonneau's The Testing series, the author isn't afraid of putting her characters in harm's way or even killing them.

So get ready for a wild ride. And maybe it will make you consider, "WHAT DO YOU NEED?"

Overall, great book!! Strong plot, character development. The climax was also super strong. The only critique I have is that nearing the end of the book, it felt not as strong and ultimately led to a abruptly quiet ending. Joelle did a great job with this book though, definitely will recommend!

I loved this book! It reminded me of another book titled Nerve. I like the concept of having the kids earn things they want but I don't like the waits they have to earn. I love that Kaylee immediately thinks of her brother and how to get him what he needs. I hate that the site starts encouraging kids to do horrible acts and how they start killing each other off. I love that they are able to figure out who is behind it and get rid of her. I hate that so many people had to die first. I hated that the end was a complete cliffhanger. It ended on a new version of the program and left so many unanswered questions. I do hope a second book is published. 10 stars!!

At first, this was going to be a two stars because the writing is great. However, when you can't stand the characters and story is bad and the descriptions of teenagers is so far off, you have to give it the one star it deserves.
