This was my first introduction into a romantisy book and I honestly loved it. The balance between fantasy elements and romance or emotional elements was perfect. This book hooked me and had me on my toes the whole time because I never really knew what was going to happen next. Makes me want to get into other genres in the future.
Is it well-written? No. Is it entertaining? Absolutely. I apparently like a school setting with physical challenges, so that's a trope I'll probably read more into. I loved Tairn's grumpy ass. I loved Andarna being very cute and also sassy. I enjoyed the dragons the most. I found myself eye-rolling Violet's choices often. I don't know how she didn't see the issue with Dain coming. Xaden is...annoying. But I'm going to continue the series because I want to know what happens. I love Violet and Xaden's friends. They were my favorite, especially Rhi and Riddick.
