This was more palatable than the 3-4 audiobooks I started and stopped before it, and I actually finished it which is why I gave 3 stars? But probably closer to 2. I don't know. So many red flags.

This book is the cutest, most endearing story I have read all month. The characters were cute and the story was actually not just framework for sex.
The only bad thing I have to say is that I could have done without
Spoiler the several mentions of her cat eating her after she dies in her apartment.
But that doesnt even make me take off a star. :D

The audiobook was really hard to listen to-I started this book so many times and finally pushed through. I also did not enjoy the main character very much at all. I do wonder if it is a different experience reading it as opposed to listening to the audiobook. The concept of the book was interesting in theory but nothing came off as believable to me. It was honestly just a struggle to get through.

2.5 ★, rounded up

This was.......annoying? Idk.

It was obvious to me immediately that Margo was manipulative and did not have ANYONES best interests in mind. Except maybe her own pocketbook.

B was annoying af at times. Like girl, I get that your ex was a dick and your mom wasn't supportive and you have some trauma but what are you doing? M was... fine? Not the best love interest but there was nothing *wrong* with him I guess?

I didnt quite feel their chemistry and also do NOT get me started on the elevator scene. 55 floors my fckn ass. unrealistic. jfc.

I DID enjoy them putting shitty men into their places - especially dating app man and mermaid man but the revenge concept didn't do it for me as much as I expected it to. Just felt a bit hollow, like I needed a bit more depth to truly understand

Brinkley has worked at Heartbreak for Hire for 2 years, ever since she went through a terrible breakup. She loves getting revenge for her clients and sticking it to men who remind her of her ex. Then, girl meets boy. Mark is one of Brinkley’s targets before he suddenly shows up as her new co-worker at Heartbreak for Hire.

As a counselor, I enjoyed the psychology talk and felt the academic sabotaging (though for me on a smaller scale).

I loved Mark and was rooting hard for him. He was sensitive and kind and extremely patient with Brinkley. Like most romance novels, Brinkley and Mark had unresolved issues they needed to work through in order to make it work.

I couldn’t put this one down and read it in a day. Have you ever picked up some ARCs, and they just didn’t feel like a real book? This one wasn’t like that. This felt solid to me.

What I didn’t love were the intense sex scenes. I’m no prude, but these scenes went from 0 to 100 REAL QUICK. Some of the dirty talk made me cringe because it seemed so out of character.
Lastly, the ending just felt a little rushed.

Thanks, Netgalley, for the ARC.
