I love this book but I'm a sucker for stories with two very different women who come together and fall apart in unexpected ways. The actual mystery was less interesting to me than the characters of Elinor and Mary and how they interacted.

This one’s a little fun and different and uncharacteristically optimistic. My favourite quote has to be “I find most of the human race extraordinary repulsive.”

One thing I love about Agatha is how she varies the formula all the time.

How did I finish a degree in English and take an elective toward said-degree called the Female Detective Novel without ever having read an Agatha Christie book when, according to the back of this book, she's "the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare"?!

Sad Cypress was a quick read, and one thing I noticed that's distinct about the writing style is that nearly the entire novel is told in dialogue-- very little description or narration. Also interesting to note that unlike most detective novels I've read, investigator Hercule Poirot is really not the central character of the story. The storyline itself wasn't my cup of tea, but it was still fun to read an old fashioned mystery.
