This book slayed me. I was pleasantly surprised by how much the story evolved from book 1 to book 4. Before I go into the things I did like, here is what I didn't like.
- The Blood Bath. I can't. I mean I'm all down for some kinky f**ery but nope. First, they just killed all the people. Then they had s*x in unsanitary blood AND increased their opportunity to leave their DNA behind. I just couldn't get behind this scene. This was not for me.
We found Drake here in this book and I fell in love. I mean, I knew I would but still. We saw his purpose, his personality, his love, his ability to make the hard choices. It was perfect.
Francis surprised me more and more in this book. The way he took charge and made no apologies for what he wanted. Both in an out of the bedroom.
Prescott and his voyeurism and "date" with Scarlett was hot hot hot. The way he navigated their scene in the playroom was epic and I loved it.
West. Broken West. Scarlett healed him and loved him. It was perfect.
Scarlett became the woman she was meant to be. Her men gave her the support system she never had and helped her find herself. She truly became a queen here.
Moments that I loved:
- “I like a lot of things about you. I always have.” “Even though I’m a brat?” “You’re my brat, little wisp. Mine. No one else’s, just mine.”
- “I’ve spent almost my whole damn life wishing you were mine. It might not have looked that way to you, but it’s the truth. Why do you think I turned down all the girls at school? Why do you think I wasn’t interested? The only person I’ve ever looked at and thought ‘she’s it for me’ is you.” I need you. I really fucking need you. Damn it, Scarlett. I’m in love with you."
- “It means, little wisp, that you are the owner of what you’d probably describe as my cold, black heart.”
- Scarlett: “And I will stab anyone who tries to flirt with you.”
- “The reaper needs a dark queen to ride by his side. I suggest you don’t complain about it and accept you’re mine. I will hurt anyone who says otherwise.”
- “He also needs a queen to fuck and punish to his heart’s content. She needs to be his brat and his good girl. Do you know where he can find such a goddess?”
- "She’s yours. And she loves you to the stars and back.”
- My Pestilence, you’re king in my heart.
- I’d followed this woman down the rabbit hole willingly and I was never coming back out.
- "Eternity isn’t long enough, but it will have to do. I cannot imagine a world where you don’t exist next to me.”
- “My brave little lamb.” “More like your murderous little lamb.”
- “You really are a kinky little shit, Drake.”
- It was a fucked up form of celebration, but that was us all over. We weren’t named the Four Horsemen for nothing.
- "Your pleasure is my fucking purpose.”

Rating- 3 Good but with issues
Heat- 5
Entire series rating- 3
While I enjoyed this series, I was disappointed in the conclusion. Bailey did such an amazing job through the first few books of slowly letting us in on the backstory and plans that I expected to have all my questions answered by the end. I didn’t get them.
The men kept saying they originally planned to “break her.” Why would they and how would it help them? We are repeatedly told that she was so important to them as children that they built their entire empire just to get her back, but yet they didn’t begin their new relationship with her with the intentions of rebuilding that friendship. It made no sense and was never explained. Maybe if the characters had stopped having sex for a few pages long enough to have a conversation, I would have gotten my explanation.
