This is my first Le Guin book and I loved it. I don't have anything smart to say about it but it was more philosophical than I thought it would be and I just fucking loved it.

Only 4 stars because it ended too soon.

When The Dispossessed was originally published in 1974, I was taking a writing class from Le Guin. Naturally, I was eager to read her latest novel, especially since she was right there if I had questions or comments. All I remember about the book, however, was that I didn't get it at all. It is, as the subtitle has it, ambiguous. Two different worlds, one lush and feudal the other nearly barren and devoid of hierarchy, yet Le Guin does not hesitate to find the flaws and the marvel in each, all discovered for us by the protagonist.

Forty plus years later, I took the book down off the shelf with timidity. It had so thoroughly baffled me at 25 that I still wouldn't get anything from rereading it. But this is Ursula K Le Guin, after all, and from the very first page I was intrigued and attentive. It's amazing what decades of living in the real world can open one's eyes to.

Get this from Jura Books. If you live in Gadigal (so-called Sydney) you should go there. It's an anarchist bookshop run by volunteers.

Interesting concepts to explore especially for it's time. review will not come as I'm too depressed and have no will to live rn.
Would like to re-read and pay more attention.

This was such a good book!!! So much to think about, this is going to stay with me for a long time. This book has amazing lines- inspiring, hopeful, thought provoking, funny, dark it has it all. Recommend to anyone who wants to think critically about capitalism/societal organisation. Never read science fiction but definitely encouraged me to be more open minded. Got me out of a reading slump loveeeed. Ideas are so powerful and so are we- revoloutionāœŠ
