3.5 Comic book writer Tara is nervous--not only is she about to be on a panel about her book, MISFIT SQUAD, at the San Diego ComicCon, she's also about to meet the man who does the art for the book for the first time. She and artist Hector have been phoning, texting, and skyping for the past three years, and they've become best friends, but they've never met in person. And since they first teamed up, the rock band Hector drums for has hit it big, coming in second on a TV-reality competition show.

Though you wouldn't be able to tell, the seemingly stoic Hector is nervous, too. He's about to meet the girl whom he's been in love with for the past three years. And seeing Tara in person is even more amazing than he had ever imagined. When he discovers that Tara's just broken up with her longtime boyfriend, Hector wonders if he should make a move. And then the two end up clinching, then having sex, and he's scared out of his mind--they live on opposite coasts, how can they ever have a relationship?

Not much plot-wise keeping these two apart, just a lot of running hot and cold, on both Tara and Hector's parts. Should Hector risk his sensitive heart and declare his feelings for Tara? Should Tara take the amazing job offer just sprung on her, especially because it would mean moving to LA, where Hector lives? Or should she go to New York, to the job she's always dreamed of, working as a comic book editor? Thumbs up for having Tara decide based on her own desires, rather than only on her desire for Hector.

When I saw More Than Comics on NetGalley I had to request it, I have loved the books in this series so far and I could not wait to jump back into this world again.

More Than Comics is Tara and Hector's story, after years of writing together to make a graphic novel, the Misfit Squad, they finally get a chance to meet each other in person, at San Diego Comic-Con, and the book opens with Tara making her way through the crowd to find her comic's publisher, and to meet Hector. Hector also has his own claim to fame, being the drummer of Villain Complex he has no trouble attracting the opposite sex, but he has his eyes firmly set on one person alone. When they finally meet in person to take part in a panel, the sparks fly between them and you are left wanting more from this duo.

Admittedly there were moments where I wanted to smack Hector around the head to get him to get his act together, and while I do think some of the things he did were to protect Tara, I wish he would have opened his eyes to what she really wanted. Tara doesn't have it easy in this book, the trip to Comic-Con is a detour on her move to New York, where she has been offered a job that she has been working towards for years. But whilst at Comic-Con she is approached by Giselle Roberts, wanting to recruit her for a writer job in Las Angeles. This is the job of a lifetime and Tara has some serious decision making to do for her future.

More Than Comics was an unputdownable read from start to finish, I really enjoyed getting to learn more about Hector, and also see his life outside of the band. The supermarket treasure hunt was hilarious and I laughed through every page of this hunt, as well as being grossed out by some of the very dodgy things they found.....and I even Googled some of the items, cappuccino potato chips, watermelon Oreos, who comes up with these flavours......although the cappuccino potato chips sound interesting to my coffee loving body. I had so much fun with the characters when they were together, from dressing up, to just relaxing, and when Tara and Hector get together make sure you have something handy to cool yourself down as things get hot and steamy fast.

Final Verdict
Loved every page of this book and the ending has me wanting more, and needing to have the next book in my hands now.

*I was provided a eARC by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Before I start this review let me tell you that if you don’t feel comfortable reading some mature content or if you’re too young this book is not for you.
When I saw that a book called More Than Comics was available for request on NetGalley I got really interested because it involved some kind of nerdy stuff. I was even more interested after reading the blurb and finding out that the book was set in Comic-Con. I always wanted to go to Comic-Con and I decided that I wanted to read this book.
Normally when you read New Adult or Young Adult romances you have that stage where the main characters meet each other and have that attraction that happens in every single book. Well, not in this one. The MC’s, Tara and Hector already know each other (and have known each other for 3 years) when the book starts. They worked together in a graphic novel where Tara was the writer and Hector did the art work. However they never met each other in really life until the day they met in Comic-Con. I really liked this because we have two characters who are already comfortable talking to each other but who never interact in real life so it’s pretty cool to see their reactions to meet each other. These book was written with dual POV’s so you really could know what was happening in the MC’s heads and I’m thankful for that because, as much I loved Hector, sometimes that guy took some really dumb decisions (I’ll talk about that later) and I wanted to know why he would do that. I really loved the whole concept of the book and how it was written and I loved the MC’s chemistry. They had an amazing chemistry. Because I didn’t read the first books in the series I didn’t know any of the other characters but they are all great and I want to be a part of their group of friends. I really liked the other characters and how they helped each other like they were a family.
However, this book wasn’t perfect. First I would love to hear more about Comic-Con. A big part of the book was in Comic-Con and I just felt that it needed to be talked a little bit more. But this was not my main problem with this book. My big problem you ask? Miscommunication. There were some serious problems of miscommunication in this book, especially from Hector. Because Hector felt like he wasn’t good enough for Tara and because he didn’t want her to drop everything for him he wouldn’t tell her how he felt and sometimes he would say really stupid things that would hurt her. I got really frustrated every time I read one of these scenes. It would be way easier if he told her how he felt right in the beginning when he had a chance.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it was really fast-paced. If you like to read a new adult romance with some sexy times you should give this book (and maybe the other books too) a try

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I liked the first one in this series, so I jumped at the chance to review the sequel. I wasn't expecting it to be about Hector, but I was thrilled that it was.

I loved this one! The first one was good, but for whatever reason I felt like I could connect with these characters more. I loved watching Tara and Hector interact. Maybe it's because I love when long-time friends start becoming a lot more than friends.

Any novel in which I like the characters is one that I enjoy reading. The book didn't necessarily explore any hard-hitting or dark themes. And yet, I loved the glimpse-into-the-life feel of the novel.

I don't like comics, but I did enjoy this one.

A great read for fans of the new adult genre.

So why 3.5 stars? It stood out from other novels that I've read in the genre. It wasn't my favorite, but I did really enjoy it.

Warnings/Side-notes: This is new adult, so there's several instances of strong language and sexual content. It's on the tamer side as far as new adult goes.

The Wrap-up: An enjoyable, quick read. Definitely can't wait to read more from the author.

Love,

Danica Page

An Honest Review thanks to NetGalley...

I haven't read the first book in this series but the premise sounded so good I didn't care. I loved this book, it was so interesting to read about a drummer in a band who also was into comic books, so much that he illustrated for them. This was an extremely quick read but was amazing. I loved Hector and Tara together, and have already purchased the first book of the series from amazon. I am now a fan of Elizabeth Briggs.

Cute story between two nerds. I would have rated it higher but it's first person POV and that always distracts from my enjoyment of the story.

More Than Comics picks up where More than Music left off. After an amazing time on the show, The Sound, Hector and his bandmates get to take a break from music to follow him as he attends Comic-Con for his work as an artist on the comic book Misfits Squad. Tara McFadden is the genius behind Misfits Squad and she's finally getting the opportunity to meet Hector after knowing each other through just in the internet for three years while they collaborated on the graphic novels. They're meeting brings out emotions both were holding back and after seeing each other in a new light, they have to make a choice on whether 4 days of Comic-Con is enough time to decide to change their lives for each other.

I have made it no secret that I am a huge Elizabeth Briggs fan and an even bigger fan of the Chasing the Dream series, so it should be no surprise that I loved More Than Comics. I was more than excited for Hector's story, especially with his moody demeanor in the first two books. He's a likable character with an interesting history that makes you want to get to know him. I enjoyed his history playing into his present, Elizabeth Briggs always does that so well. Tara is also an incredibly interesting character. She's driven, smart, and totally unaware of Hector's feelings for her and her own for him. Their interactions are a combination of funny, stressful, and sexy as they circle around each other. The Comic-Con part of this is awesome, I loved the cosplay and watching the fans with the band, Hector, and Tara. Plus, I really liked the band's mixture of friends and how you get to know all the characters we'll get to know even better in future books.

Like always, Elizabeth Briggs did a great job of setting up background, tying in the previous books, and connecting to the future books in the series. This is an incredibly short read, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have depth and enough action to pack a punch. I am sad to say this is the last book in the band's part of the series, but I am definitely looking forward to the rest. Julie's story is next as she takes on a good looking competitor on a fashion reality show, then we get to read all about Andrew (Andy in this book) and his former one night stand, Becca.
