This may be closer to 4.5 stars - not quite as good as the Mortal Instruments series (yet), but I really ejoyed it! I found Tessa to be a strong and likeable main character (more so than Clary), and I loved the dichotomy of Will and Jem. Although Will shared quite a few similarities with Jace's bad boy image, I have to say that Jace is still my favorite of the two.

I have so many questions after finishing this book and want to know more about everything...I can't wait for the sequel!

This book was amazing. I finished the Mortal Instruments last summer, and for a while, wanted to dive headfirst into the prequels. The book is set in 1878 London, and is amazing. The first few pages were a bit slow, something that is completely normal for some of Clare's books. However, it was almost as if someone had pressed fast forward onto the book, as the last 100 or so pages seemed to flew by. Reading the previous series made it easy to point out those characters' ancestors.
But, by far was the most amazing relationship to read about was the one between Will and Tessa. I constantly wondered 'will they?' 'won't they?' The book ended with Will asking Magnus a question, although we did not get to know the answer. However, I can tell that they are a OTP and would like to see them at least attempt a relationship in a later book.
Overall, a must-read if you've read the Mortal Instruments, or someone that wants to dive into the hype. I am planning to start the next soon.
