Not sure it’s doing for me what it seems to be doing for others. It’s making a point but it’s making it repeatedly with no added effect for the repetition for me. Apologies

I’ve been thinking about how to write my thoughts down for this review. It’s one I’m struggling with. This book was put into two parts. The first part had an online focus. I felt I was just reading the words on this part. There were funny moments and sections I agreed with. I understood that it was someone very online-focused but maybe because I’m now less online than I used to be some of it didn’t entirely make sense to me. The second half was very heartfelt and focused on a family tragedy. Clearly seeing the online focus reducing and writing about what is more meaningful in life. I resonated with this half more and the way it was written could feel the pain the family was going through. For me, I knew I wanted to read this book before I did and I must have made an expectation around it. This expectation was higher than how I felt reading it by the end which is why I believe the rating is lower than what I feel I could have given it. But I feel I couldn’t have given it more than a 3. I’m glad I read the book but I don’t think I would be rushing to read it again.

Although I understand what the author was trying to do, I still didn’t know what was going on half the time.

Part poetry, part memoir, part criticism on the absurdity of The Internet, No One Is Talking About This made me feel all of my feelings for the first time in a while. This book shows us what happens when reality rips us from the safe, surreal, self-deprecating endless portal of the internet, how language and the culture of Being Extremely Online has shaped how our brains work. Do we even know how to BE, anymore? Can anything happen without irony? What about when tragedy strikes? This was a joy to read.

This was a rollercoaster! I was confused, sad, laughing, and it was so surprising!
