Slower beginning than the other books but very good action in the middle and end. Interesting revelations and hints for the next book

I really was not a fan of the third book in this series, however, this forth one is definitely one of my favorites. The extended plot ramps up significantly and Mags' character is actually starting to develop which I enjoyed.

Better than the 3rd in the series, but still nothing outstanding. Enjoyable time waster

The first half of the book left me a little puzzle at where it was going - it really felt like it was going nowhere. Just a lot of description of things, was there Kirball game again? I think there was. A whole lot of nothing.

Oh wait, there was a lovely wedding and Lena and Bear resolving things... and Mags wondering if he loved Amily.

Not exactly an exciting read.

The story really picks up when Mags is suddenly back in the mine. (Well, I say "picks up", but it's more like starts).

SpoilerI wondered if this was an alternate universe - what Mags would be up to if Dallen never Chose him, which was intriguing if a little out of the blue.

Though once I worked out Mags was hallucinating, the drugged scenes felt a bit too long and I ended up skim-reading those scenes.

Throughout this series, I haven't had a clear favourite character or a character that's really interested me, but I think I've finally found one: Reaylis. He was quite fun to read (besides the preachy tone in one scene).

The ending felt a little rush, as everything seems to happen at once, but at least it was interesting (and the only reason why this is a 3 star rating, not a 2).

I'm hoping Book 5 will be better, as my interest in Mags and his friends has waned quite a bit since Book 1.

Great book!! It had a slow start but I knew it would eventually pick up, Mercedes Lackey never lets me down.

This series is such comfort reading for me, despite the fact that I haven't read them before.
