He'd wanted to protect him for a lifetime. Yet in the end, Gu Mang had protected everyone on earth—it was Mo Xi alone he'd let down.

„I dragged you down and I failed you. I regret it so much. But I've never... never once regretted loving you. Go back, Mo Xi. I hope in the future, just like in my dream, we'll find each other again in the rain.“

This series was all hurt, (almost) no comfort. Until the very fucking end.
The author truly is a master in deep despair and suffering. But I was absolutely taken by it at all times. Truly the most painful experience. Sometimes I had to stop reading simply because my tears blurred the lines on my kindle too much.

The Extra‘s story made up for the pain a tiny bit.

Shredded Cucumber swung his julienned dick around and continued to wander.

… I will remember this sentence for as long as I live

This would've been higher but I was a lil sad that we didn't get more of the
life that Gu Mang and Mo Xi were starting at the academy and instead got an AU about their own school days
. The actual story I really liked, and the first few bonus stories, but the longer one I was very meh about.

yuwu might be a new fav for me. the story of mo xi and gu mang hurts me so much, but god it was good 😭 i don't think each reveal of information was a huge holy shit moment, but i liked them enough to be satisfied with it once revealed. the novella at the end of vol. 7 was fun to read. i do wish meatbun wrote some fun fluff extras...

Main novel ending: 5 stars
Extras: 3 stars

Meatbun masterfully weaves together intricate plots in a way that few authors can accomplish. This in combination with characters whose story rips my heart to shreds and pieces it back together is like my holy grail.

After that emotional ordeal, the AU short story couldn't compare!

I loved the ending, but then I prefer
happy endings
. The extra that took up half this volume was cute and fun, though it took me a few weeks after reading the finale to be in the mood for it.

I loved reading yuwu. Every volume made me highly emotional and I even cried bc of some scenes. It's amazingly written and I am baffled that Meatbun has such a complicated history with it. It's certainly a different vibe from her other novels but I still rly enjoyed seeing how she wrote these kind of characters and dynamic. They have my whole heart.
I can't believe it's over now. I am so happy they got their happy ending tho. It seemed so impossible.
❤️

Love the series. 5 star series but I felt ripped off only get 1/3 of this final installment actually related to the main storyline/plot.

Also HATED what they did with the princess.

Mo Xi and Gu Mang are my faves.
