Maybe it's a hot take, but I don't think Crichton's Jurassic Park books are his best. Maybe it's just because the media has been oversaturated with similar stories since they came out, but I think that his stronger works are some of his standalones, particularly this one and The Andromeda Strain .

I was genuinely surprised when I realized that this book is close to 30 years old (ok, the cockpit door being open during the flight was a clue), but with recent scandals in aviation, it felt like it could have been written recently (again, apart from the open door and the fact that Crichton died in 2008). I appreciated the level of detail Crichton went into when it came to all things plane related, even though a lot of it went over my head. He writes a great drama and this was no exception.
