She sympathizes with the participants of the January 6th incursion after acknowledging their were self identified nazis in the group and they were assaulting overwhelmed, underarmed security members. She explains people who grew up poor and stay in the poverty can become resentful and then takes a completely unfounded leap to say poverty can lead to that being reacting in that way. Hateful? Violent? Whatever your interpretation it’s deeply insulting to people in poverty. I grew up low income and it in no way impacted my morality.
I overlooked A LOT of white and financial privilege but at three quarters of the way it was too much.  Furthermore, books like these that offer so little depth into poverty, classism, and child abuse allow these critically important issues to continue to be overlooked and minimized. Collectively it’s shameful this book is as popular as it is as it’s likely contributing to the siloed views of the privileged.
