I really enjoyed this, it was everything I wanted it to be when I saw the blurb on the front calling it part Agatha Christie, part Veronica Mars. As an Agatha Christie fan I loved Alice constantly referring to Poirot and miss Marple and wondering "what would Agatha Christie do?" I loved the setting, the characters and the mystery. Only reason it's not getting a five star is that part of the ending was a bit too convenient. Not the main mystery luckily, I enjoyed that part. But there was one subplot that was resolved in a way I didn't like and made it feel like things had been rushed a bit at the end. I don't know if this is meant to be a one-off, but I would definitely read another book or two with the Agathas!

This was a fun YA mystery. Kind of gave me modernized Nancy Drew vibes throughout (not so much Scooby Doo, even though it is set in the same town). I thought Alice and Iris were both really well fleshed out but there is still so much to learn about both of them as the series continues. Their friendship was unlikely but built up in a believable way. Reading as an adult, I did have to suspend my disbelief a few times when the adults (
Spoiler especially the lawyer and the grandmother
) were putting so much faith in two teenagers to solve a crime the police were ignoring and even handing them evidence or major clues, or congratulating them for putting themselves into dangerous situations with potentially dangerous people in order to do illegal things. I did love all of the Agatha Christie quotes at the beginnings of each chapter. I thought they were well selected and helped ground the action of this novel. I'm definitely excited to read the next one that just came out and see where Alice, Iris, and the rest of the gang go from here!

Also missed opportunity, but Iris should def be wearing her retro cat eye sunglasses on the cover instead of those round ones!

Super fun mystery.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was a quirky and had a twist and turn. I felt like I could see the characters and having two female leads cracking the case was great too. I recommend.

a sweet cozy mystery. easy to listen to,my only complaint is there were more characters then what seemed necessary

Two teenage girls team up to make an unlikey duo of detectives when a classmate of theirs goes missing. This mystery is well written and easy to follow. I was hooked from them beginning!

This book really rekindled my love for the mystery and suspense genre. It reminded me how good these books can be an I will 100% be reading more book like this in the near future (including the sequel to this book).
The unlikely friendship of Alice Ogilive and Iris Adams, formed over the love of mystery and want to solve a murder, is an example of a top-tier friendship. They had such a great adventure together and watching their partnership grow into a best-friendship made me really happy.
Of course,
Spoiler Brooke Donovan dying is not the best circumstances to form a friendship on, however, they eventually figure out who the murderer is and avenge Brooke.

The intricate layers of the book made it all that more interesting. Every clue the reader knew, along with the characters, making it an enjoyable reading experience. The writing is absolutely amazing.
Spoiler Even from the first second, I thought it was Matt Donovan and when it was revealed that he was Paul Bradford, him being the murderer was concrete for me. But then I realised that there was still quite a few pages left in the book, so it couldn't be the end.

MY JAW LITERALLY DROPPED AT SO MANY POINTS and I had to put down the book multiple times.
Spoiler Of course Alice and Iris get into a fight as soon as the story starts to unfold. So they're separated when everything begins to bow up. I did however, like how we saw two different realisations of the actual murderer - and I was actually scared for Alice's life.

When all the puzzle pieces clicked together, it just all made sense. Kathleen Glasglow threw such a curve ball at me with that ending. I thought for sure that it was the
Spoiler coach because all evidence pointed towards it (even the corruptness within the police).
Talking about the police, Detective Thompson pissed me off so much. I understand he was doing his job and two teenage girls coming up to him and telling him how to do his job BUT STILL. He could have at least listened to them a little bit and done a more thorough investigation and not just stuck with
Spoiler Steve
immediately.
All the evidence pointing towards
Spoiler the coach was completely turned on it's head but all lined up when it was revealed that MS WESTCANMOT (or however you spell her name - I couldn't pronounce it in my head...I just knew it was her).
Everything made sense and it was such an unpredictable turn.
Well done Kathleen Glasglow. I am 100% reading more of her books.

As an Agatha Christie fan and a lover of messy YA sleuthing, this book was a slam dunk.
