A fantastic YA read! I'm so glad this was the book to round out my 2024 reading log. Two girls who had been kept separated by the social hierarchy of highschool end up becoming friends and team up to solve the disappearance of a girl in their class. Such a solid whodunnit! I was able to parse out a suspect early on, but the journey of figuring out who, what, how, when, and why was excellent so I let my lucky hunch not get in the way of enjoying the book. I really had a great time listening to this one.
Perfect pick for Karen McManus and Holly Jackson fans.
Funny quote - "Steve' why'd you do it? You're too hot to kill someone."

This is one of my favorite reads of the year! If you are a fan of AGGGTM and/or Agatha Christie, you will love this. I listened to the audiobook with my Spotify Premium account and the narrators made this so much more interesting with their different voice styles for Alice and Iris! The plot was fun to follow and kept me guessing until the very end! Though this is a YA mystery as our MCs are still in high school, it was fun to follow our mismatched amateur sleuths in solving the murder of their classmate! I’m reading the sequel next because I’m invested in Alice and Iris’s new found friendship and sleuthing!
4.5, LOVED IT. A story where police suspectes the wrong person and teen girls prove them wrong once again.

Does this book have some fantastical and wildly improbable plot points? Yes. Were the pop culture references a little aggressive to my late 1900’s self? Yes. I giggled and gasped my way through this. 10/10 recommend

—the quote “what would agatha christie do?” on the first page really took me out and made me less excited to read this book. lol idk why. it was a good book, just not my fave.
(i read this as an ARC thanks to Edelweiss)

YA mysteries are my jam these days. This book was a great start to a series. It had an interesting mystery, an eclectic cast of characters, and a lot of future promise!
Alice Ogilvie is a mysterious girl. She disappeared for several days last year and no one knows where she went. When another popular girl disappears (who happens to be Alice's former BFF and her old boyfriend's new love), people get suspicious. Alice and her tutor, Iris, team up to solve the mystery.
This book was just a fun ride. There wasn't anything that happen that was super surprising or twisty, but it was entertaining. I really like the main characters Alice and Iris. Their opposing personalities made for an interesting friendship. The side characters were great, and I hope they reappear in the next book. Finally, the mystery was solid. There was nothing that shocked me, but I was entertained.
If you liked A Good Girl's Guide To Murder, this may be a more lower stakes read that will fill that desire.

A new series I didn’t know I needed! Teen sleuthing when they shouldn’t be meddling is forever a favorite.
Normally I never rate a book as low as 2 stars, but between the cringy dialogue, the extremely predictable murderer, and the fact that the MCs both had “secrets” they were keeping from the reader that had nothing to do with the plot and once revealed they weren’t surprising anyway because I had time to figure it out on my own, I lost interest in this book around 30% of the way in.
The first part was great, and I was intrigued enough to hope it would get better, but it was just lackluster for me. Although, I do suspect that if I had read this at 12 or 13, I would have loved it. The premise is fun, the main characters have a lot of potential for younger readers. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

found this super cringey, but honestly it was a good refresher in between heavy fantasy books.
do check the trigger warnings, as this book had a bunch of hard topics included.
