I loved this book. The premise is very odd and if you have trouble suspending belief with magical realism/paranormal it might not be for you. But I laughed and giggled and I cried. This was such a beautiful story and one of my favorite romances I’ve read.

I haven’t been this happy reading a book in a long time.
Sobbed like a baby at one point but the pieces got put back together pretty quickly.
I love this story. It’s so different and quirky and has so many silly and heartfelt moments.
I could relate so much to the main character, as I am also a failed writer with a BA in English, and loved how she progressed.
Love love LOVED this book so much.

A really lovely exploration of grief and family dynamics, but it's hard to think of this one as an actual Romance book. The ending was predictable but satisfying.
I really enjoyed this. This book has a twist on the normal romance novel. This kept it interesting and fresh. I really enjoyed the witty banter throughout that book and found myself laughing out loud. I would recommend this to anyone.

The premise of the book is what hooked me. Although I did enjoy majority of the novel, I did have issues with the flow of the story. There were pieces of the book that I loved on its own. How the author handled death and grief. There were a lot of unexpressed hurt and pain within the family and the way the author brought the family together through the eccentric/vague wishes that was left by the father's will was just heartwarming. Then you have the romance. The relationship between Florence and Ben was funny and sweet. I enjoyed the banter and the references to other novels/pop cultures. However, when you put those pieces together, the transition just didn't flow. For example there was a scene where Florence realizes that the family was catering to her need because they would always visit her during Christmas when they would have loved for her to come home. It was a serious scene, but then a few sentences and a paragraph later she is in a hot tub having steamy thoughts of Ben. It just made it hard to fully emerge myself into the story.
Also, going back to the romance. Although I did enjoy reading about the couple, it was a little too insta-love for me. Majority of the time I don't mind it, but in the context of this story I would have liked more of a build up. I mean there was definitely feelings within the friendship during the week of her father's funeral. However, they then don't see or talk to each other for 3 months, and when they finally meet up it was "I love you"... I understand there was a connection between them that wasn't revealed until the end of the novel, but still I felt the romance may have been better if it was a slow burn.
Overall, loved the novel for the family aspect. Just wanted more from the romance.
