A very weird book. Will add more thoughts to this review later.

I devoured this. I think is best to go into it knowing nothing.

Hard to review without spoilers but the sheer number of reversals and revelations we get in this is such a feat of storytelling. Takes a horror trope which is often done poorly and pulls off a blinder. An emotionally complex (but I would say horrifying without being especially terrifying, at least for me) and clever book. Couldn't put it down.

Readers will be like, "What a crazy twist!" when the author lies to you for 250 pages and then decides to tell you the truth at the end.
Yeah, someone's mental illness is not your horror story. You can't just steal a real disorder and turn it into a "freak show" for others to gawk at. Disrespectful

This is not my favourite genre. This one dipped a little too much for me into the Horror genre. There were points in this novel that I almost set it down and walked away.

It is me. I just don't like this type of story.

I don't mind a little dark, especially in a Thriller, but there were moments in this story that right and truly made me uncomfortable. That was its intent, so no hate on this book, it just wasn't for me.

My wife loved it. BUT, then again...her favourite genre is Horror and she knows what I like/dislike. She knew that there was going to be some things that triggered me (so she told me to look out for them...which I am grateful for).

I survived and finished the book. I call it a win for me. Phew. Now I need something to wash the stick of this story off of me...quickly. Ugh.
