Three Nigerian women living in Singapore have their lives unbalanced when a Nigerian man arrives and impacts them all in different ways. (Don’t worry, this isn’t a love quadrangle.) This is one of those books where you get attached to the characters and then watch in dismay as they making increasingly terrible mistakes. It offers an interesting look at the opulence and pressure of Singapore and the lives of a minority community there. I wish there would have been more Singaporean characters than one throwaway side character, but perhaps that is not this author’s story to tell.

I loved the setting, and though the characters were hard to root for (especially in the middle when there were SO MANY bad decisions, and mostly over this random man!!) I actually loved the ending. It was great to see each woman confronting her past, overcoming her trauma, and claiming a new future for herself.
