I didn’t realized there was a large expat community of Nigerians in Singapore. So this was an interesting book from that perspective. There wasn’t anything compelling about the story, though, but neither did I regret reading it.
Graphic: Addiction, Bullying, Emotional abuse, Infertility, Infidelity, Racism, Sexism, Grief, Car accident, Death of parent, Abandonment, Deportation
Extremely fun! Not life changing but lots of great characters and interesting cultural points explored too.

The book follows the intertwining lives of three Nigerian expats living in Singapore. Dara is a workaholic lawyer on the cusp of making parter at her firm when they bring in a new recruit who challenges her position. Amaka is a successful banker who looks like she has it all but is in the midst of a family crisis and is secretly struggling with a shopping addiction. And finally we have Lillian, former piano prodigy turned housewife, desperate to find a way to earn a living and continue to remain in Singapore even as her marriage flounders following multiple unsuccessful attempts to have a baby. All their lives are affected by the arrival of Lani; to Dara, he is the competition at work, with Amaka, he forms an inadvisable romantic relationship and Lillian just can't get over how much he resembles her dead father, to the extent that she starts to consider reincarnation.
If you're looking for a whole lot of drama, you'll want to check this book out because it certainly delivers in that department. It was quite engaging and entertaining with a smattering of information here and there about the women's Nigerian backgrounds.
I felt like the characters could have been written a bit more distinctly because for the most part, especially at the beginning, they all blended together and I had to stop often to recall which one of them I was reading about and which backstory was whose. There were also some instances of telling instead of showing, where I felt the writing could have been better.
