I always struggle with books told from multiple perspectives especially when the characters share many defining features.
I liked the story overall but I felt like it dragged a bit and I was always mixing up the characters.

I enjoyed seeing the specific perspectives from different African (Nigerian) women in the diaspora, from different places all figuring out their lives in the international Singapore. They each bring their family trauma with them, and learn to handle their complicated feelings and relationships with one another. Although a man (Lani) had each of the MC women all up in a fuss, he is still not the center of their issues as they work though generational trauma, and friendships.

I wanted to love this book, but it was almost a DNF for me. The paragraphs were too long, and included too much detail during some parts. I also felt like the author didn’t take the reader through a journey through Singapore enough for me. I wanted to know more about the character’s experience living in Singapore, ie, the food they eat, the scenery, the culture, etc. I feel like it lacked that. I also just couldn’t connect with the characters unfortunately.
This was actually so entertaining in a drama tv series / elin hilderbrand book kind of way. Every time I picked the book up I was genuinely excited to see what happened next. But I have to say I wish there was actually something off about Lani!! Like…..I get that it’s about the female friendships and not about the man but I feel like I read all that just to find out that these women are too easily shook by a random guy?! I needed some more juice!!!

This book had so much drama (which I loved) but listening to it as an audiobook was challenging. It was difficult to keep up with every character and twist.
3.5/5 - This was a chick lit beach read but I enjoyed the Singaporean setting and the Nigerian characters. Wasn't spectacular writing or anything new but it was an easy, fast, grippy enough story. Enjoyed it at the beach, would have been disappointed if I was looking for a meaningful book

This was a Jenna pick, which I usually enjoy, but this one missed the mark for me.
The story is about 3 women who meet in Singapore, each with different ambitions.
Dara is a UK lawyer, who is trying to make partner, but the firm brings in a new male attorney, Lani, and she feels threatened. Amaka is a Nigerian banker, with a shopping obsession that she cannot afford. Lillian is a US former pianist who has followed her spouse to Singapore.
The story revolves around these 3 women, their love lives, or lack thereof, and their work life. I wasn't interested in any of it.
