I liked the diversity of the characters who were mostly from the Nigerian diaspora. The story didn’t wallow in black injustice but I like that it was included (Amake having a Nigerian passport; Dara the only black woman in the firm and was tested by hiring a black man) because it is still reality. The book recommendations within the book are great!!

I didn’t like Lillian’s story which is a good premise her actions in the book made no sense.

I didn’t like the audio production. The pauses came at weird times like in the middle of ongoing conversations but no pauses between scenes (there are obvious breaks). Also post production editing made it obvious that the narrator was redoing parts because sound was off.

A beautiful book that told the story of three amazing women. They all had their secrets and past they were trying to out run, and they coped in different ways. I liked seeing their different perspectives and how ambition and trauma can present itself in different ways. I loved the background of Singapore and the allegiance between the women there. It was rewarding to see the character development and how their relationships evolved and changed as they did. I think the author really took time to make sure everyone got the ending they deserved.

The audiobook was good but didn't quiet capture the distinctiveness of the different characters.

However, I loved the slice-of-life story and the characters' personal development

A book with a book club for my book club - I enjoyed gasping at the drama and seeing these characters develop throughout the story.

Okay, I really liked this, as both a novel and as an audiobook production, even with the absolutely silly American accents. It was both eye-opening yet very familiar, and I appreciated the glimpse into elements of professional life that you don't typically see novels about. At times it was a little too busy, but overall it was upmarket contemporary fiction at its best.

This one started out slowly for me but I grew to like all the characters and the storylines. I like how all the individual characters’ issues were different but had similarities and common ground to unite the friends. Interesting view of Singapore and the Nigerian community there.

It was just the right amount of chaos and drama I needed. I do feel like it was over stretched towards the end though.
Great read nonetheless, always here for the girlies.
