I like the art style in this graphic novel, as well as its aesthetic of combining modern suits with popular European fantasy worlds. I was also intrigued by the cast of main characters (or rather, their potential) and was impressed by how certain scenes were composed. Archer's backstory stands out in particular: His narration said one thing, while the illustrated flashbacks contradicted his words and gave readers more insight into his tragic backstory than he was willing to share with his friend in-universe. I also liked (the potential of) Ugly's backstory: a character who's been so consistently rejected by society that she's eschewed tradition and become a hero in her own way, embracing the insults used against her with a combination of pessimism and defiance. As far as a main cast of characters go, this one seems fairly solid.
However strong the art style and its characters, I wasn't as impressed by the plot of "Folklords." The set up is compelling, but there just isn't enough space to fully explore the plot--or rather, not enough time is given to resolving the "end-game" conflict. If there were more issues to this series that tidied up the loose ends and further explored the characters whose premises I found so fascinating, then I would probably rate this book much more highly. As it stands, the final chapter was underwhelming, and I'd rather spend more time in this world fully fleshing out its characters and their dynamics than see it end in five volumes (roughly 25 pages per volume). In other words, if this were a pilot to a longer series, then I would be happy as a clam and eager to see how the story progresses.

Oh wow. There are so many subtle hints in this one. I need more!

Liked the tie in with classic fairytales and questing vibes, but I think the weird librarian cult thing was both too complex and too simple to follow.

Buenos dibujos, gran comienzo y un pinchazo espectacular con un final apresurado y confuso.
