“Law enforcement would rather we remember a dull man as brilliant than take a good hard look at the role they played in this absolute sideshow, and I am sick to death of watching them in their pressed shirts and cowboy boots, in their comfortable leather interview chairs, in hugely successful and critically acclaimed crime documentaries, talking about the intelligence and charm and wiliness of an ordinary misogynist. This story is not that. The story is not that.”

This book was excellent. The writing was top notch. I'm so glad someone decided to dragggggg all of the media obsessions with ted bundy and the other "hot" serial killers by creating art house shows and movies. I loved that this focused on the victims, never used the killer's name, and reminded us that the media sells us outlandish nonsense about these ordinary dudes who are killing women. An incredible audiobook focused on imperfect women who deserved MORE.

EDIT: THIS IS ABOUT TED BUNDY??? WHO WAS GOING TO TELL ME. This is insane I do not care who did it but more that this is based on a REAL STORY and I was blissfully (although, is any of this story blissful?) unaware that this was based on reality. I feel sick to my stomach.

I really appreciated this book, especially as a girl who goes to a women's college interested in law. I appreciated how it chastised true crime as a concept and developed the story. I also really appreciate books with sapphic representation! This falls just short of five stars, as it didn't have the je ne sais quoi that five stars usually possess, but still, an interesting story I'm glad I read. (Honestly, trigger warning for literally everything. Protect your peace!)

This was so well done. Whip smart, sometimes witty and others brutal, but engaging and deeply satisfying.

This book consumed me, not the other way around. For the past 2 days I did nothing but read, finding myself unable to stop, unable to think about anything but this. This book is very very heavy and extremely well executed. My heart was aching for these women, for their bravery and for everything they had to endure. I cannot say how important it is to finally see the focus being drawn away from the convicted to those who deserve our undivided attention instead.
