Really enjoyed this one. Very inventive world with lots of fascinating concepts. Two main characters are bland, but many very compelling side characters.

A suite of fascinating, complex characters facing down apocalyptic aliens? Sign me up.

Solid. Good characters, good plot, good pacing, good aliens, some good scenes. Children of Time is a masterpiece, there's genius in that book. I would never recommend this over Children of Time, but something about this book is better. The craftsmanship of the book - how the past and present unwinds, the recursive plot beats, the world building development - is stronger and more mature than in Children of Time.

There's some weak points. The captain, the angst of the main int character, some lines here and there.

In recent years I haven't loved series, I often stop after the first book. Three Body Problem was fantastic, and yet I didn't want to keep reading. But for whatever reason I'm very excited to read the next. It's a 3 week wait on Libby.
