Cute, light read, which I was in the mood for

What worked: Is it just me or are books infinitely more fun when the lead character is a blogger? Jeane is one of 'those girls'. The ones that everyone at school makes into a joke because she's not on the same level as them. Jeane knows exactly what she wants from life and who she wants to be, why should she have to dampen herself down to fit into a society mold? I'm so pleased to say that she doesn't. She wears her originality as a badge for all to see, Jeane is the kind of girl that I wish I'd had the guts to be in school. (Wow, this review got deep really fast!). Can you tell that I really liked her?

Michael is the lead male that I really don't know how I feel about. At times, he seemed to ground Jeane when she was flying all over the place in her mania. The romance between them was slow-building and beautiful. I loved seeing them slowly move from one end of the scale to the other.

What irked: Jeane, as much as I loved her, just didn't know when to sort herself out. She could be incredibly selfish and make hasty decisions that she'd convince herself she didn't regret. Oh man, I just wanted to hug her :(

Michael.....at one point he went with the typical "I'm going to act like a little boy and put on all this macho crap to avoid my friends making fun of me."

Recommended to: Even though there are two angles that irked me, they add to the story and turn into into an epic dork-fest that I'd recommend to bloggers, dorks and anyone looking for a laugh. Adorkable will have you in stitches! I'd give this book.... ***4 Stars - This book was really good, a definite re-reader***

IT WAS SO GOOD - I LOVED IT :D

After reading the first page, containing the Adorkable Manifesto, I was hooked. Jeane is a girl after my own heart: a quirky, argumentative, obsessive tweeter/blogger with unique fashion choices found at jumble sales (though I wouldn’t say I go quite as far as she does). Her snark and wit kept me in stitches throughout the book and had me repeatedly saying “she and I are practically the same person, listen to this” in response to all of the questioning looks I received due to my laughter. Michael Lee is one of the most genuinely likeable book boys: friendly, willing to go out of his way to help others (even if they don’t deserve it), and empathetic. These characters certainly aren’t perfect – they have their flaws, and undergo tremendous development throughout the story. And they speak like actual teenagers, endearing Briticisms and all.

The romance was perfectly handled. There was no instalove; Jeane and Michael actually start out hating each other and as their characters grow and develop, their relationship does as well. The believability is definitely helped by the fact that the story is told from both Michael and Jeane’s point of view, so we get a good look at the relationship from both sides. The sex scenes are awkward and imperfect, yet refreshingly real.

Also, can I just say how happy I am that there was no huge reveal that Jeane was actually secretly beautiful despite thinking of herself as dorky and weird? Jeane is short and has a few wobbly bits, but she is okay with that AND it doesn’t affect her sex life. (Other YA writers, please take note; the “secretly beautiful” trope makes me mad because we should love our bodies instead of having it shoved down our throats that we have to look a certain way to be considered attractive).

Overall, Adorkable is a very fun read that is about so much more than the perfect, popular boy and the “weird” girl falling for each other; it’s a celebration of our differences that underlines the importance of being ourselves.

I love Sara Manning but perhaps I’m more suited to her adult novels than her YA stuff.
I liked the relationship between the two main characters, it was interesting, the dynamics were believable.
But I hated the two main characters. I couldn’t stand them. Part of me wanted them to end up alone...
It was very meh for me, it fell flat.
Sorry :(

I read this book whilst I was away on a residential trip. This meant that I kept stopping and starting and never really got a full reading session. However, this book was perfect for that because I never forgot what the previous pages were about. It was one of those books where you could instantly understand what had happened on every page. That said, this book just felt like another book. It wasn’t one of those books where it really stood out with it’s plot and characters. Overall, a good book to take on a busy trip.

Super cute book. It has a great "be yourself" message, and you can't help but love Jeane.

Adorkable is the first Sarra Manning book I've read and I have to say I really enjoyed it! Quirky and fun, it's my kind of read!

I really liked Jeane. I think she's a marmite character though, you are either going to warm to her or just hate her on sight. I loved her quirkiness and addiction to her social networking - but more than that I really enjoyed having her layers stripped away during the course of the story - to see the real Jeane.

Michael was likeable too. On the outside he seems the typical popular boy but once you get to know him you see there is more to him than that. I liked the dual narrative so we got to know them both - I've said many times I love this style of story telling and I'll say it again now - it really works to give both characters more depth. And I loved how the romance between Jeane and Michael progresses - there is definitely a thin line between love and hate with these two!

Really funny (the bike scene had me laughing out loud), charming and Jeane and Michael make the perfect oddball couple! On the basis of this one I'll be picking up many more books by Sarra Manning!

In the beginning I did not like any of the characters but halfway through the middle I started liking them.
Nice story even though I was embarrassed most of the time for Jeane....
