I enjoyed this book and I like the commentary on social class and the workhouses. It’s a good book for analysis, but it can get a little boring sometimes and the descriptions at the beginning of each chapter can be a little unnecessary.
Graphic: Physical abuse, Sexism, Toxic relationship, Violence, Antisemitism, Murder, Abandonment, Classism
Minor: Adult/minor relationship
Well the book has twist like it's title & rural life is always better. It's just tell how hard it is to be an orphan in19th century and how bad people can be merely because of grit. The most important is circumstances always determine how your life gonna be and how you live your life.

Despite listening to the audiobook, there was no singing Oom Pah Pah in this. Disappointing.

Dickens, when he's at his peak, imbues most his characters so that they are funny or tragic or romantic or comic, and ultimately, vividly real. I've grown to enjoy his writing, florid and verbose as it is, because he's a master at painting broad detail in a (general) economy of words.
That said, I wouldn't have minded chucking dear, poor, orphaned Oliver in a hole.
He's /so/ sweet and /so/ sensitive and /so/ generally pathetic and put upon that feel my teeth set on edge in the chapters that focused on him, and his tendency to burst into tears at the slightest provocation. Secondary characters are far more satisfying an clearly Dickens is making a larger point about poverty, class, and human suffering and depravity, and is illustrating the depth that mankind will dive. But sadly, he's not as strong with those characters that are supposed to rise above it all.
