Mariana Zapata

3.83 AVERAGE

like a 3.5! I definitely didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it as much as her others. Not sure what exactly I didn't like (other than the fact that he called her kiddo so much), but just in general I didn't rly feel the connection and found myself skimming through most of it. The characters and writing were still amazing, I just got bored with the story line!

MZ did an amazing job creating a relatable romance. B, our female main character, had enough realistic insecurities and doubt that I felt like she was me. She didn’t want to bother her crush from her childhood days, I get that and I feel that on a deep level. I enjoyed that their romance took time. B didn’t suddenly see Zac and vice versa and immediately jump into a relationship. I enjoyed that there were more characters than just the two mains and they all had bits to add to the story.

It was a great slow burn romance which was to be expected from this great author. I finished the entire thing in a day because I couldn’t set it down. I wish there was more to their story because I’m not ready to walk away from Bianca and zac.

Hands down my favorite book of 2020. I believe Mariana Zapata was brought to the earth to write the most perfect books. Every book, every chapter, every word is perfect. We finally got our Zac book!

“If every person weighed their dream against someone else’s, nobody would ever dream at all.”

*Quick note! This happens years after “The Wall of Winnipeg and Me” and has some of the same characters, so I’d recommend reading that one first.*

Bianca Brannen grew up following her older cousin and his best friend Zac Travis around. She and Zac fell out of touch for a decade and now they are both back in Houston and after a phone call from her cousin, find themselves thrown together again.

Mariana Zapata is the queen of slow burn. I have officially decided this. Also, after reading four of her other books and being pretty on the fence if I like her writing or not, I’ve also come to terms with it. Her books are pretty reliable and this one followed the formula well. I enjoyed the characters so much too that I couldn't put this book down.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mariana Zapata does it again. Another amazing slow burn romance (emphasis on the slow). My only complaint was there wasn't a good transition from friends/little sister to lovers. I'm mean even when they get together in the end he is calling her kiddo. Bianca obviously loved Zac since she was a teenager, but we never got Zac starting to see Bianca as a love interest.

3.75 stars

Zac Travis hugged me and said, “I sure did miss you, Little Texas.” Something in me unraveled at the name he hadn’t used in so long. In so, so long. With my cheek against his chest, I told him the truth. “I really missed you too, Big Texas.”

Ok, it’s official, Mariana Zapata can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes. This book deserves five flaming gold stars for how freaking good it was. It was exactly what I needed, and I already wish I could read it again. I think Zapata may have just become my number one romance author because, DAMN, she is just SO GOOD!

One way to hook me into your book is if you throw in a sexy, swoon worthy, country boy with a southern drawl. Zac Travis is HOT. He says things like “darlin”, “sugar” and the sweetest damn things that’ll just melt you into a puddle of tears.

“My whole life, I’ve felt like I was missin’ somethin’, tryin’ to find somethin’. I don’t know how to explain it, and now, it feels like I found it, Boog. It was right in front of my damn face all along.”

I mean like, TELL ME THAT ISN’T THE CUTEST FUCKING SHIT?

Zac & Bianca used to be best friends, but ended up losing touch for over 10 years. A family emergency has Bianca going to find Zac to pass along a message, and rekindles their friendship. Well, almost. Bianca is terrified of letting Zac get too close, and does her best to hold him at arms length. Zac, however, is damn near impossible to hold at arms length. He manages to wiggle his way back into Bianca’s life, and slowly, the two of them start spending every possible second together. When Bianca starts catching feelings (again), she runs, knowing the last thing she’d ever want is to ruin their dynamic.

My favourite thing about Zapata is how well she writes her characters. You are guaranteed to be rooting for them by the end, to the point where you would literally do ANYTHING to get them together. Zapata writes an excellent slow burn (like, the slowest of slow burns you’ve ever read), but there’s something about watching two people develop a relationship so deep and entangled that draws me to her stories. They are truly some of my favourite books ever, and now I’m going to go reread her entire backlist just to lose myself in her characters again.

ALSO NOTE: yay for TWO cameos in this

Slow Burn Queen

This book was an amazing read. Mariana always delivers the best slow burns. Honestly felt like I was reading a series the should be on TV. Zac and Brianna’s story was so well written and I love that we got a few surprise characters we know and love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Loved it. Loved Zac and Bianca. Loved the Team Graves and the Lukov appearances.

The one thing I cannot get out of my head is.... Trevor redemption arc...? I want more...? I never thought I’d be saying that...? But here I am.

Also, when am I going to get a proper novella of everyone meeting? I need all my professional sports couples and tattoo artists and body shop couples in one room, pls!

I bow to Mariana, queen of the romance game.

Bravo!

This was the slowest burn i have ever read but it was so worth it omg
