I did not do any research on this novel prior to reading, and there came that moment while I was reading when I instantly made the connection between the story and Little Women, and I am happy to tell you it was before the author even hinted at it. I would have to say that even though there is the gentle homage to Louisa May Alcott, that this is a fine, original story that encompasses the power of love within a family and found family. I do not want to spoil a page of this exquisite novel except to tell you that you will fall in love with these characters, you will root for them, you will care about every single moment that they experience until you may weep in joy or sorrow. This is in the running for my favorite novel of the year. This novel was especially poignant for me because of the relationship between Julia and Sylvie Padavano – who most closely mirrored the relationship I had with my sister (unbelievably so). Most of all, this novel celebrates finding your family and loving your family no matter how long it takes. The cover art is also exquisitely rendered and made richer within the narrative. I can’t tell you anything else. I will be recommending this novel to everyone I see.

I grabbed this to listen to on a long drive with my wife. It’s a moving story, with a steady plot. And it does a beautiful job of exploring the interior lives of several characters. Each one feels distinct and authentic, and you can identify with each in a different way. It really is masterful work on the part of the author.

It also has a striking and beautiful cover.
