Another recommendation from Ames. This was a cute historical romance. I enjoyed George, the heroine, quite a bit. The first half really frustrated me. George got railroaded left and right, and Aunt Agatha really angered me. The second half was much better. I liked seeing George and Hart settle into each other. The kids at the end kind of came out of nowhere, but they were cute and I liked the story overall.
2.5 stars. had to dnf at 80% because the hero just was not redeeming himself? like bro, you have too much skin in the game at this stage to have no reasons for marrying beyond “i WANT her. i want HER.” clearly traumatized by his past and frequently behaving like a shit even though we’re aware he’s a good person—but actions speak louder than words. no shortage of good, developed men as side characters here, too, so it makes it all worse. sinc needs his own book.
Even if it's well written I couldn't connect to the characters and the story fell flat.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Marry in Scarlet was a highly anticipated read for me and I'm sorry to say that this one just missed the mark.
I had been so excited to read George's romance with the stuff Duke of Everingham. George is a lady that defies convention and I thought she would be a fabulous foil for the duke, and to a certain extent she was. But, to be totally honest, I just wasn't a big fan of the duke. Hart was arrogant and controlling and I'm not sure that I was ever convinced that George didn't deserve better.
I also found it jarring that the novel changed course in the last part with this last minute mystery involving two missing boys. And the resolution of that added on intrigue just felt overly sweet.
Ultimately, this was an uneven novel for and not my favourite from Gracie.

Hart tricks and manipulates George into marrying him, and while there was some evidence that he got that what he did was wrong, it was too little too late. I'm actually surprised that this kind of manipulation made it into a romance considering the importance of consent in romance, or at least this should have been given greater care.I also found it jarring that the novel changed course in the last part with this last minute mystery involving two missing boys. It’s been a while since I’ve read an Anne Gracie book. I rarely re-visit books. If I find an author I like, such as Anne Gracie, I read all of that person’s books until I’m caught up. Thus, I have been waiting somewhat impatiently for this one because I loved George from previous mentions and the sound of this Duke implied he would meet his match in her. AG did not disappoint! This was a stellar finish to the “convenient marriage” theme. This series was not my favorite yet I found MARRY IN SCARLET to be one of the best Anne Gracie books of all those she’s written.
I wish books like this that reference characters from other books include short refreshers in the back regarding who’s who.
Last, I should add that I listened to the audiobook rather than read it and the narrator did a pretty good job with the different voices.

My favorite of the series, Marry in Scarlet has enjoyable characters and a solid story. My only criticism (of the series as a whole) is that it could be a little steamier.
