Alas, I fear I have no choice but to skip over everything I could possibly say about this mad, insane, twisted, unreliable story with such a viscous ending (which is a lot) and simply comment the following: One does not have a kiss after one has had a vomit. That is simply not done.
[1972] Oh the tension! There from the get go and sustained throughout, I loved that about it. Watching these characters intertwine and self-destruct felt deliciously sadistic, and I delighted in watching their lives unravel. I’m two for two now with Iris Murdoch; dare I try a third?
Not my favorite book I've ever read. Had to read it for a philosophy class, and I don't often choose to read these types of books, which is probably why I didn't care for it. I did not love the writing style, and I strongly disliked most of the characters. The overall story line was interesting however, and there was enough happening throughout the story to keep me engaged, but other than that I sort of hated it.
