3 stars. Easily the best book in the trilogy. Finally got some character growth from both Reid and Lou. Especially Reid who has been nothing but a giant bore in this series but I really liked his growth here. He had a personality and was interesting for once. I also was able to tolerate Lou for the first time which was refreshing. I think their romance really shined here because of the things that they had to go through, especially with Lou giving up his memories. That whole plot point was really good and was where the story really found its footing for me.

Everything wrapped up really well and I liked the ending and the epilogue a lot. I’ve been hard on this series and I stand by my reviews of the first two books but credit where credit is due, Mahurin really delivered with this one. I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes from here now that this series is done. Hopefully I’ll enjoy her future works more than this series.

Lowering my rating to 4.5 stars because there are a few things that bothered me that I hadn’t noticed on my first read because I was taking in everything so quickly. It’s still a really good book, though, just short of perfect.

I must say, the epilogue is impeccable. It made my heart feel so full and tugged at all sorts heartstrings that I was almost tempted to ignore my qualms and just keep the 5 stars rating. Almost.

I’m loath to say that I finally finished reading this series. I tried to stretch it out as much as possible because I didn’t want it to end. I got attached to the characters and the world.

This finale was so fun despite the high stakes and the tension. There’s always something happening; the plot never stalls. The humor is immaculate. This series is all sorts of balanced; perfect balance between humor, tragedy, and action. So much tension, so much conflict, yet so funny!

I love all the characters. Each and every one of them. Lou has always been among my favorites, but this book solidified her place among the top ten.

Again, I love this world. There are so many cool details about it. There’s this truth-sea that you can’t speak any lies in. The magic system continues to be fascinating, or, as the kids say, cool as shit.

This entire series has been building up to a mother-daughter showdown. I was on the edge of my seat reading that particular chapter. It didn’t disappoint. It was all sorts of emotional and intense.

I’ll miss this world; I’ll miss these characters. But I take comfort in the fact that I can always come back to them.
