A little confused by the last little bit of the epilogue but otherwise I really liked the conclusion to this story! The angst was fun, I liked all the characters, things wrapped up in a mostly satisfying way for me. The plot was fine, not my favourite but I was mostly just in it for the characters anyways. It absolutely did not need to be this long though, it could have easily been at least 100 pages shorter. Whole lot of filler in here. The mermaids made everything worth it though lol

Gods & Monsters is an absolutely spectacular conclusion to the Serpent & Dove trilogy. The epilogue was utter perfection and Shelby Mahurin wrote such a beautiful ending for these characters that I have grown to cherish so much.
Lou has grown so much since Serpent & Dove, her character development throughout the trilogy was sometimes a rollercoaster ride but she became who she needed to be by the end, for herself, for Reid and for her found family. I did become a bit frustrated by the troubles that Lou and Reid faced. We lose Lou. Get Lou back, only to lose Reid. Grrr. Argh. I understand the direction that was taken and why but I don’t have to like it. There wasn’t a character I didn’t enjoy. Even the ones we weren’t supposed to like I still found them remarkably executed. I loved seeing more of Coco and witnessing the depth of her grief, the strength of her character and her commitment to her friends. I also enjoyed seeing more of her blood magic. Beau added great levity to the story, he’s such a great character. And I was glad to see so much from Celie, the ending for her was wonderful.
There were a few spots for me that dragged a bit but all the tension and action made up for any slowness. Mahurin wrote such wild action scenes for this book and every detail was so perfectly crafted. Overall, this is a wonderful trilogy with magic, political/religious turmoil, found family, tense romance, wild action and loveable characters. A simply great read.
