I would give this book a 3.5 rating. It was only in the last half that I became engaged with the story, although I was very interested in the life of Belle Greene.

I enjoyed this historical novel highlighting a strong willed and brilliant woman. The infusion of race, art, and politics kelts the novel engaging and relevant.
