Challenging the notion that white women were passive bystanders in American slavery and expounding on their active participation in the slave trade, "They Were Her Property" is a phenomenal must-read for sure. Each chapter delves concisely into a different facet of the ways that white female slave owners would perpetuate slavery, citing a PLETHORA of sources and first hand accounts that detail the horrors and evil of their actions. From property ownership to physical violence to attendance at slave auctions, Stephanie E. Jones-Rogers leaves no stone unturned in her quest to expose the blatant white feminist whitewashing of this section of American history. The writing was masterful, providing depth and nuance to each chapter, while also being highly accessible for any reader, with Jones-Rogers taking the time to explain the sociopolitical and socioeconomic landscape of the era. I highly recommend this book for all readers, but be prepared to be filled with insurmountable rage at the atrocities revealed within!

While the content and subject are extremely important for all to learn, the essay was quite graphic in some parts and was affecting my mental health. I can't wait to discuss with friends and get more information

I found the writer's style to be really repetitive and the information didn't flow well for me. I did appreciate it for the information presented.
