I feel like the writing was good but the content was missing substance and crucial material to get it to the point where I would have LOVED it. The suspense and overall plot were super intriguing. HOWEVER not going into the nuance of why we don’t get to know alex in detail and not exploring the perils/social ramifications of not legalizing sex work was a FLOP on this book’s part … ESPECIALLY (and maybe even, only,) because the character is so damn reflective about EVERYTHING ….. I feel like this could have been SO much better than it was. I will say i surprisingly liked the approach to end the book the way it ended.

Ugh.
A good plot. I liked the end whenbehind her Dom is there about to shoot her (at least that’s my reading). , reminded me of La Jetée. But the narrative voice, especially when it makes social commentary, is especially grating. Why a 22 year old would pause to make some of these reflections is beyond me, although I will say that when they work, they *work*.

Listened to this as an audiobook. The author is extremely talented at writing a baseline level of discomfort for the entire plot, with things staying tense and unresolved. That alone felt admirable, and kept me highly engaged.
