I was expecting a whole lot more from this book, but it took a while (try the last 100 pages!) to get interested in it. Alvarez's writing is vivid and descriptive, but the story didn't move fast enough for me. I loved reading Mate's entries, and was that a mention of the Garcia girls' family? ¡Pobrecita Magdalena!
