Die Macht des Wortes.

“It was hard to believe people whom I loved and respected could fall victim to the Nazi poison.”

Scarily relevant. Hadn’t heard of this before, but everyone should read it.

More of a short story, but a powerful one. What's amazing is that this story, of business partners writing to each other after one moves to Germany in 1932, was published in 1938. What Kressmann Taylor--who became a professor at Gettysburg College, my alma mater!--crafted is an incredibly strong story. I would love to see it fleshed out more, but it's excellent as is.

The introduction and afterword of this edition were also illuminating in providing context for the story and Kressmann Taylor's life.

I read this book in less than an hour. There aren't even page numbers as it is written in a series of letters. I am always so grateful for Goodreads when coming across books I would never have encounter otherwise. This was an incredible story that has quite a twist at the end. I highly recommend it.
fast-paced

What a story to end the year on.
