A powerful read. Would be a great addition to Holocaust curriculum, and meaningful without graphic.

This is a short book of 67 pages with a powerful message with the intent of awakening Americans in 1938 of the dangers of Nazism.

It was written by a woman who went by the name: Kressman Taylor. She was alarmed with true events in her life and decided to tell her story with short fictional letters between two good friends. It starts in 1932 when Martin Schulse moved with his family to Munich and Max Eisenstein stayed behind in San Francisco with their shared profits from an art gallery in the city. The correspondence shows the effects of Hilter's regime and how quickly he spread fear and propaganda against the Jews.

This classic story was originally published in Story magazine in the U.S. and immediately sold out in 1938. It was later published into a book and gained international recognition. The book now includes a note from Charles Douglas Taylor, her son, which provides more about her life and publications.

It's short, predictable and a quick read. Yet, it shows how easily evil dictators even in the present time can use fear to shake up the world. Let's hope these words can help us learn. History can never be repeated.

Short but packed a punch. A great addition to how easily liberals can slip into fascism when they refuse to let go of nationalism.
