This book sucks.
I tend to like Michael Chabon, but I cannot think of a more boring premise than "Shitty white dude does a bunch of shitty, illegal stuff and never suffers legal consequences because he has a quasi-influential position and the people in his life kind of suck".
Chabon makes no secret out of the fact that this story is heavily inspired by authors like Hunter S. Thompson, but if there is one thing that this world has more than enough of, it is stories with no point and a disgusting cast of characters.
It was annoying that Chabon went out of his way to describe how awful (and ugly!) of a person his main character was and yet still had a small harem of women circling him throughout the story.
Chabon writes really well, but it benefits no one to write ugly, pointless garbage beautifully.
Honestly, it read like a wet dream. Keep that ish private, dude.
