just because one's mother is a whore, doesn't mean her daughter would turned out the same way. I am glad that Liz decide to give Ethan a second chance, even thought i really think he didn't deserve it. I still think Liz should have try harder even thought Ethan's wife and Pia hadn't scare her away.

Even though it did to take long to read, it was still a struggle. I was mad at both characters for most of this book. I understand being wrong, but being close minded and not letting go of the past really made me not like Liz and Ethan. I still don't like this book much, but at least they tried go redeem themselves by the end of it.

I had a really hard time liking Ethan, the main male character, because he was angry and blamed Liz for not telling him about the baby when she'd made sincere attempts twice. I just didn't enjoy the bitterness and anger and had a hard time cheering them on to an eventual happy ending.

Storyline was ok up until 80%. Probably would have rated it in the 3⭐️ range if not for the rushed ending. It seemed like the author just wanted to finish the book and did not think consider whether the ending worked for the story as a whole.  The MMC’s play to get the FMC back was super juvenile and page out of a 90s/early 00s high school rom com. It was not a good look for a MMC in his 30s. Liz deserved better!

I really loved this book! I connected with the characters more in this one, than in the first book in the series. Now, I am looking forward to continuing on with the series and reading Pia's book! I highly suggest the Fool's Gold series to anyone who loves light romances set in small towns!

3.5 but topped it up because it was better than the first one. Such flawed characters in this story. I understand all the hate people have for Ethan. He’s an idiot but not an asshat. He means well and tries to always do the right thing. He’s execution is skewed most times though. Every flawed character in this book has such redeeming qualities and heart. That’s what I really liked about it.

Almost Perfect by Susan Mallery
Liz, an author and her son, Tyler have to head to Fool's Gold to take care of her brothers two girls. He's in prison and his wife has split from the scene.
She had run away pregnant and had told the father of her child but a letter was written to her telling her to never come back. The father had never gotten the letter.
Ethan Hendrick is trying to make amends while she tries to find out from her brother in prison what happened with the girls mother.
She gains some friends in the town but others have nothing good to say about her and her decisions of the past.
She has talked to her brother in prison and she will fix the house up, rent or sell it and move all the kids back to the big city and bring them for weekend visits.
She had some really good news from the local college that made things worth while again.

This was my first book of Susan Mallery that I had read back in high school and fell in love with. Rereading it now I found myself really annoyed at a certain characters actions that back than I would just ignore and love about. But other than that I really loved the story and was happy with how it all ended.
