Theatre of Marvels tackles issues of race, class, and gender in a time when such issues were just beginning to be challenged.

Follow Zillah through her journey of love, heartbreak, self realization, and rebirth.

Not bad for a debut but could be way better. Being labelled as YA is not an excuse for the clumsiness and clunkiness of it.

I just couldn't get into it. Maybe because I was expecting a mystery, but it was really a tale of finding your identity. Or maybe because the narrator thought through her feelings in great detail? I don't know. I finished it, but it felt slow going.
