Beautiful story that taught me a lot about a part of history I didn’t know a lot about. Lovely narrative about a women finding herself and her culture.

This book did a really good combining childhood and youth with adulthood and slowly finding yourself even when plans change. Family is really the center of this book as it helped miyoung and caused issues being with her son. Her marriage to her husband was sweet but so short and it really put in perspective the hardships of the early 90s, living in a country during war, and being discriminated against for being from a country that Japan had taken over. I felt a wide range of emotions during this book and loved her story and strength. I wish we could’ve seen more into their journey back to Korea, but the book ended at a good spot and we know they made it safely since it’s based off her halmeonis (grandmothers) experience!
