This book took me 10 days to finish, and it kind of got me in a reading slump. I didn’t like the writing style at all and the plot was also not very intresting. The main character is also pretty sexist and homophobic, which is understandable because this book is written in the ‘50s. The only thing that I did like about the book is that it sometimes had some great quotes. But if you would like to read a book like this I would recommend reading ‘Perks of being a wallflower’ and not this.

Holden is quite a sad character to be 100% honest. He’s clearly hasn’t accepted the death of his brother and uses a hateful persona to shield his true emotions. This does not excuse his behavior, although he is aware of his wealth he spends it aimlessly and without consequence. Overall a pretty average read.

I know a lot of people find Holden annoying beyond belief but I think this is a beautifully tragic story about grief and neglect. I want to scoop Holden up in my arms and hold him tight.
